Dental hygiene in Bratislava
A professional clean that removes the tartar and stains your toothbrush can't reach. It takes about 60 minutes and is the simplest way to prevent decay and gum disease.
What happens during dental hygiene
- We check your teeth and gums and see how much tartar there is.
- Ultrasonic scaling removes tartar, including below the gum line.
- Air Flow — a fine powder and water jet — lifts stains from coffee, tea or smoking.
- Polishing and fluoride to strengthen the enamel.
- Home-care coaching: brushing technique and the right interdental brushes.
How often to have dental hygiene
For most patients we recommend twice a year. If you build up tartar quickly, have bleeding gums or dental implants, every 3–4 months may be better — we'll suggest your interval after the first visit.
After the appointment
You can eat straight away. After Air Flow, avoid coffee, tea, red wine and smoking for at least 2 hours so stains don't settle on the freshly cleaned enamel. Any sensitivity to cold usually fades within a few days.

Frequent questions
Does dental hygiene hurt?
Most patients find it unpleasant rather than painful. For sensitive teeth or inflamed gums we can use a numbing gel or local anaesthetic — just tell us before we start.
How long does dental hygiene take?
About 60 minutes. If there is a lot of tartar or it has been a long time, a second visit may be needed.
Can I have dental hygiene while pregnant?
Yes. It is safe and recommended, because pregnancy hormones make gums more prone to inflammation. The second trimester is ideal; please mention the pregnancy when booking.
Is dental hygiene covered by health insurance?
You pay for dental hygiene at the practice. Some Slovak health insurers contribute towards it as a benefit for their clients — check the conditions with yours. We will give you a receipt.
Should I have dental hygiene before whitening?
Yes. We whiten clean teeth free of tartar and plaque, which gives a more even result. We recommend hygiene about a week before whitening.
What is Air Flow?
Cleaning with a fine powder, water and air. It removes stains and biofilm even where a brush can't reach and is gentle on enamel.
